Depicting non-existing territories loosely based on real places, science fiction scenery and hyper-objects, Marija Avramović's watercolours portray imaginary landscapes at the intersection of utopias and dystopias. Functioning as preparatory images for the realisation of Supreme universe, the watercolours embody a contamination of physical and digital elements and aesthetics, blurring the boundaries between real visions and fictional worlds.
Marija Avramović (1989, Belgrade) and Sam Twidale (1988, Hereford) began working together in 2017 and, despite their very different artistic background and skillsets – Avramović has degrees in Painting and Fine Arts, while Twidale studied music while self-learning programming -, they found points in common in their fascination for video games and other-worldly realities. With inspirations that span from post-anthropocentrism to science fiction, Avramović and Twidale’s practice stands at the boundary between the digital and the real, creating virtual universes that embody the hybridisation and cross-culture of their intimacy.
They have previously exhibited at: Cultural Centre Belgrade, RS; World Museum, Liverpool, UK; Barbican Centre, London, UK; Luminale Festival, Frankfurt, DE; Novembar Gallery, Belgrade, RS; Groningen Forum, Groningen, NL; isthisitisthisit.com, online; La Grande Halle La Villette, Paris, FR; Palais des Beaux-Arts, Paris, FR.
